written by Shahirah Zafirah
Tsunami .Everyone will fell fear and trembling to hear it especially our sushi-loving neighbors from the east. As far as we know, they have been attack by the earthquake for many times. Actually, what is the meaning of tsunami? Tsunami is an ocean wave produced by a sub-marine earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. These waves may reach enormous dimensions and have sufficient energy to travel across entire oceans. It is a notable historic tsunami in Japan. Therefore, the Japanese population must always be ready to face the threat of earthquake and tsunami woes at any time.
Admittedly, Japan is the nation with the most recorded tsunamis in the world. Chronological order starting with the tsunami in Japan is the Great Hakuho Earthquake was the first recorded tsunami in Japan. It hit in Japan on November 29, 684 but no estimates on how many deaths. A devastating tsunami wave occurred along the coasts of Hokkaidō in Japan as a result of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, 80 miles (130 km) offshore, on July 12, 1993. On March 11, 2011, the fifth most powerful to hit the world in the past century off the Pacific coast of Japan, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake produced a tsunami at 33 feet (10 m) high along Japan's northeaster coast. The wave caused widespread devastation, with an official count of more than 25,000 people confirmed to be killed or missing. This tragedy shocked the public in the world.
The destruction of tsunami had not just killed people but also destroyed the facilities. Disappointingly, it cost a lot of money. To uncover the story of the tsunami disaster that befell the people of Japan, I examine the situation of the country suffered damage when Japan hit by the tsunami. Thousands of homes were destroyed, many roads were impassable, trains and buses were not running, and power and cell phones remained down. Besides that, the fires also have broken out in several places including an oil refinery. A ship carrying 100 people also swept away by the tsunami. To summarize, the boats, cars and trucks tossed around like toys in the water. The land totally damage and it was the most expensive natural disaster in history.
Moreover, tsunamis were the main cause of death for Japan's worst-ever volcanic disaster. The National Police Agency has confirmed those 15,805 deaths, 5,927 casualties injured and 4,040 people missing. The 92.5% of them died by drowning. From this tragedy, the most severe natural disasters, the victim in trauma.
In spite of that, Japan’s economy was spared a more devastating blow because the earthquake hit far from its industrial heartland. Fear vehicles now call “tsunami cars” will make it to Malaysia shores through grey market channels. The damage of the new cars affected by the disaster which is most of the car, with models sold independently in Malaysia from established Japanese car makers such as Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Toyota.
In a nutshell, all parties must always be ready and alert to face the threat of tsunami at any time. Early preparations should be taken as a precautionary measure to reduce the death rate of Japanese citizens. This tragedy causes loss of life and psychologically, the victim in trauma. Last but not least , economy is also affected by this disaster.
