THE FEELING OF TSUNAMI
Written by Siti Nadhirah
What comes in your mind when you hear or read about tsunami? Most of the people said that tsunami is devastating. You are not sure whether you will come out alive or not after the great disaster. It is a miracle if you are still alive breathing. The question is, what about the people who always experience tsunami in their country? For an example, Japan. Here are some of the emotions and feelings of who experienced tsunami, in particular part of Japan.
One of the impact faced by the victims is emotional shock. Their brain nearly shut down as they cannot think wisely. The only thing to do is escape from the nightmare. It took months and years for them to recover the shock.
In addition, night time is the worse. For so many reason, night time is the most frightening of all. First of all, it is dark and their eyesight are limited. All they hear is the sound of waves rushing to the beaches. And that is the scariest thing of all. They wonder if large wave is coming. Secondly, it might be power loss as the electric cable has been destroyed. It’s really hard for people in this age to move work without electricity.
Besides, they also fear about electrical appliances. After a tsunami hits, the power is out. The electrical cables and wires are hanging everywhere. Maybe one of those wires will be live. They wonder how to shut off one of those wires. What happens if one of those wires are touching water, than happens to be connected to a puddle that they are standing in. And so, they nearly feel paralyzed about walking around, for fear that any move you make will electrocute them.
Other than that, they feel nervous to see the survivor lists. This is the first thing they would like to find out. They become desperate to know about the people that are missing. They just hope - pray - that they are somewhere else. What do you feel if none of our family are not listed? That time will determine the breaking point of a person.
Moreover, the sadness for the young and the old can be seen in their faces. They look around, and realize that there are not many young but many old. This is because they are gone. They didn't make it.
Within 24 hours, something bad begins to happen. Decay starts to set in. It comes from decaying plant life that has washed ashore. It comes from fishes from the sea that were swept in with the wave, but not taken away on the return to the sea. It comes from rotting food. As they walk by piles of debris, a strong smell would come from beneath. They walked on quickly, fearing what might really be under those debris.
Those are only a few of the emotions that people feel in the hours after a tsunami. They are real memories. For Japan, the culture of organization and preparation adds to the complexity. In a culture where everything is so prepared and organized and calm, I am sure things are even stronger than ever.

TSUNAMI DISASTER IN JAPAN
written by Shahirah Zafirah
Tsunami .Everyone will fell fear and trembling to hear it especially our sushi-loving neighbors from the east. As far as we know, they have been attack by the earthquake for many times. Actually, what is the meaning of tsunami? Tsunami is an ocean wave produced by a sub-marine earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. These waves may reach enormous dimensions and have sufficient energy to travel across entire oceans. It is a notable historic tsunami in Japan. Therefore, the Japanese population must always be ready to face the threat of earthquake and tsunami woes at any time.
Admittedly, Japan is the nation with the most recorded tsunamis in the world. Chronological order starting with the tsunami in Japan is the Great Hakuho Earthquake was the first recorded tsunami in Japan. It hit in Japan on November 29, 684 but no estimates on how many deaths. A devastating tsunami wave occurred along the coasts of HokkaidÅ in Japan as a result of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, 80 miles (130 km) offshore, on July 12, 1993. On March 11, 2011, the fifth most powerful to hit the world in the past century off the Pacific coast of Japan, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake produced a tsunami at 33 feet (10 m) high along Japan's northeaster coast. The wave caused widespread devastation, with an official count of more than 25,000 people confirmed to be killed or missing. This tragedy shocked the public in the world.
The destruction of tsunami had not just killed people but also destroyed the facilities. Disappointingly, it cost a lot of money. To uncover the story of the tsunami disaster that befell the people of Japan, I examine the situation of the country suffered damage when Japan hit by the tsunami. Thousands of homes were destroyed, many roads were impassable, trains and buses were not running, and power and cell phones remained down. Besides that, the fires also have broken out in several places including an oil refinery. A ship carrying 100 people also swept away by the tsunami. To summarize, the boats, cars and trucks tossed around like toys in the water. The land totally damage and it was the most expensive natural disaster in history.
Moreover, tsunamis were the main cause of death for Japan's worst-ever volcanic disaster. The National Police Agency has confirmed those 15,805 deaths, 5,927 casualties injured and 4,040 people missing. The 92.5% of them died by drowning. From this tragedy, the most severe natural disasters, the victim in trauma.
In spite of that, Japan’s economy was spared a more devastating blow because the earthquake hit far from its industrial heartland. Fear vehicles now call “tsunami cars” will make it to Malaysia shores through grey market channels. The damage of the new cars affected by the disaster which is most of the car, with models sold independently in Malaysia from established Japanese car makers such as Honda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Toyota.
In a nutshell, all parties must always be ready and alert to face the threat of tsunami at any time. Early preparations should be taken as a precautionary measure to reduce the death rate of Japanese citizens. This tragedy causes loss of life and psychologically, the victim in trauma. Last but not least , economy is also affected by this disaster.

TSUNAMI IN 2004, THE TERRIBLE DISASTER
Written by Anis Adibah
Do you remember the date of December 26, 2004? The date which reminds us of the most severe disaster occur, the tsunami in Indonesia. The 9.1 and 9.3 magnitude of the earthquake had triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the beaches from the mainland bordering the Indian Ocean, had kill over 230 000 people. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.
A lot of peoples are still in trauma even though the tragedy has passed. They were very fortunate to be alive until now. For example, our Chinese kung fu movie star, Jet Li. He went to Maldives for a holiday with his wife Nina, two young daughters and nanny. When they were enjoying their holiday, suddenly he noticed the water rising very fast. By the time he and the nanny had picked up Jane and Jada and turned to head back to the hotel, the water had reached their feet then their chin. He shouted for someone to help them. This was no action movie. In the time between the tsunami and the Sichuan earthquake, Jet Li transformed his life, dedicating much of his time to helping the victims of disaster and the less fortunate. Rather than just donate money, he set out to create an organisation name One Foundation, that would make a genuine difference and draw upon the power of individuals around the world.
Besides Jet Li, other people also had same experience. Max Kim-Bee, a photographer and also a regular “Travel+Leisure” magazine contributor experience the tsunami. He was on holiday with his family near Galle, Sri Lanka, when the earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit. They were spending Christmas vacation at a beach house in Talpe, a small village seven miles southeast of Galle, which is on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. They were enjoying the celebration and suddenly they saw some water in the street a few hundred feet ahead. Then, they run away to save their life. It was very shock for them. After the tragedy, Kim-Bee recounts the moments during and after this devastating natural disaster through an e-mail from the Colombo airport while awaiting a flight back to New York.
An American interior designer Nate Berkus also involved in this kind of tragic disaster. He was vacationing in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka, with his partner, Fernando Bengoechea, when the gigantic wave hit. Just like Jet Li, he also set out to help the victims in Sri Lanka. His mission was to report back on the progress of Oprah’s Angel Network’s tsunami projects, lead by three international charities. Mercy Corps is helping small businesses get back on their feet and boost local tourism. Donations to Oprah’s Angel Network also went to the local Habitat for Humanity, where volunteers are building 150 homes for those who lost everything.
This three people faced the same experience of tsunami. Although, some of them had lost the loved one but life must go on. They took this experience as an opportunity to change their life. The spirit of humanity deep inside of their heart glows to help the victims. As a conclusion,we have to unite with other people and help each other no matter what happened.
